Dr. Schwartz graduated cum laude from Indiana University in 1983. He attended medical school at Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois and graduated in 1988. He completed an internship in general surgery at Loyola University in 1989 and a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois in 1994. He then completed a spine fellowship at the Leatherman Spine Center, Kosair Children’s Hospital and the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky in 1995.

Dr. Schwartz won the North America Spine Society’s award for outstanding research in 1994 and the International Intradiscal Therapy Society’s Lyman Smith Award in 1994. He is the inventor of the Antares, Legacy Dual Rod and Leverage Cervical Laminoplasty Spinal Instrumentation Systems, used for the treatment of spinal fractures, scoliosis, tumors and cervical myelopathy.

Dr. Schwartz has authored articles published in many professional journals and has given presentations at national and international conferences. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Indiana University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and the Director of the OrthoIndy Spine Fellowship.
