Dr Cleaver completed his medical training, in 1996, at St Thomas’s Hospital in London finishing with a BSc in Human Physiology and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. He then worked for charitable causes in South America for 12 months before moving to Australia to complete 5 years of orthopaedic post-graduate training. In 2008, Dr Cleaver completed a post-graduate fellowship in anterior spine surgery during which he gained exposure to minimally invasive spine surgery and in particular extreme lateral minimally invasive surgery (X-LIF).
Dr Cleavers primary interests lie in adult reconstructive spine surgery, using minimally invasive techniques and motion preservation technology. He was the first surgeon to regularly use the X-LIF technique, in Australia, with outstanding results and the first surgeon to perform minimally invasive extreme lateral total disc replacement, in Australia, (XL-TDR) and regularly performs multi-level complex reconstructions using both X-LIF and XL-TDR.
Dr Cleaver works in a private practice on the Gold Coast in Australia and with AIMIS in Cyprus.
